Park and Ethiopian Restaurant

Sunday 17th of August 2008

Have a play at the park and/or lunch at the Ethiopian restaurant.

The park:
Date: Sunday 17th June
Time: 10am
Place: Moolabin Park Moorooka.
The park is between Vendale Road and Wharton Street. Park your car
on Vendale Road. The park has a playgroup but no toilet. If you go
up Koala Road which is directly across from the park and turn right
into Pampas Street you are at the Moorooka shops. It is less than a
kilometre and will take about 15 minutes to walk with children to the
restaurant but I think that most of us will drive up because of the
time.

The restaurant:
Date: Sunday 17th June
Time: 12:30pm
Place: Ethiopian African Restaurant, Shop 8, 173 Beaudesert Road,
Moorooka
RSVP Linda

BYO Alcohol.
It is at the end of an alley way. It is on the left hand side of
Beaudesert Road if you are headed towards the city. Prices are
inexpensive. The easiest parking is at the Woolworth's but you will
have a little walk. There is a bottle shop on the walk from
Woolworth's.

Bush Walk- Mt Cordeaux

Sunday the 31st August 2008

Bush walk to the top of Mount Cordeaux. See lyrebirds and scarlet-flowered giant spear lilies while the bell birds sing. There are spectacular views as well. This walk is part of the World Heritage listed Main Range National Park.  It is a 6.8km return walk which takes about 2.5 hours.  It is a Class 3 walk which means a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Meet at 10:30am at the Crest Car Park at Cunningham’s Gap.  Many of us would call this the Cunningham's Gap picnic area at Cunningham’s Gap but the Crest Car Park is the correct name.  It is the first right hand turn at the top of the gap coming from Brisbane.  There is a turning lane.  If you miss it (which is easily done) go on for a few kilometers where you will see a safe area to turn around in.

The gap is on the Cunningham Highway (Highway 15) between Fassifern/Aratula and Warwick.  It is approximately 120km south-west of Brisbane and 50km east of Warwick. It will take approximately 1.5 hours from Brisbane.  There is a map and information at www.exploroz.com/Places/16365/QLD/Cunninghams_Gap.aspx  Coming from Brisbane you take the Cunningham Highway (15) exit off the Ipswich Motorway at Dinmore (just past Redbank) - Map 333 Gregory’s.

Bring:

More information about the park, the walk and a map www.epa.qld.gov.au/projects/park/index.cgi?parkid=94

www.epa.qld.gov.au/media/parks_and_forests/parks/maps/map_main_range.pdf

For those interested Stacey’s at the Gap can provide accommodation, hot dinner and hot breakfast for $65 per adult and $33 per child (3-12 years old).  See more information at http://www.staceys.com.au/.  Ring Stacey’s at the Gap on 4666-1240 to make a booking.

This activity was put together by Lisa specifically for the teenagers so it would be great to see some teens along.  All other members are also most welcome.

AMROT

A Theatrical Show and LIVE Music Night!

If you've always dreamed of seeing a great Ethiopian theatrical show and a LIVE musical ensemble, then, check out AMROT.

The Story: An extremely wealthy and crafty 97 years old woman (Weyzero Denknesh) toys with her grand children as they circle about, waiting for their ill-deserved inheritance.

The plot thickens as the old woman who is expected to die comes back to their lives.  Amrot has a lot of laugh out loud moments with some Ethio slang words for people who are into clever comedy with a slightly twisted mind.

It also gives us an opportunity to look into ourselves and our own set of values. It makes us introspect and re-prioritise our lives.  Amrot brings back faith to people who have become cynical enough to believe that good does not beget good in return always. It raises our hopes and makes us feel good about being simple and honest with ourselves.’

You will be fascinated, touched and tickled, intrigued, moved and delighted by this stunning ALL-STAR show here in Brisbane.

Starring: Getahun Solomon, Shewanash Molla Tegegn, Mohammed Noray and Tigest Tilahun.

Written by: Zacharias Berhanu

Directed by: Shewanash Molla Tegegn

Music: The sensational Melaku Alemayehu.

Featuring the one and only Bitsat Seyoum!!!

Length: 70 min

Amharic: Amharic

Don’t miss out! Advance tickets are available at any Ethiopian restaurants and shops in Moorooka or at the venue.
