The Grace Centre project is an integrated, holistic Christian approach to meeting the need of a broad range of children. An aim of the Grace Centre is to help families stay together. The Grace Centre aims to work together with families to provide a means of improving the lives of their children. This will mean that these children will be given the opportunity to grow up into people who can change their world in a positive way with a hope and vision for the future.
Over the past 40 years the families of Ethiopia have suffered drought, famine, civil war and more recently the AIDS epidemic. Families have been stripped of their wage earners, and traditional multi-generational support. Infant mortality is high (16.5%) and literacy low (less than 30%).
Grace was founded by a group of people desired to see lasting change brought to people who are marginalised and forgotten, single parent families, orphans, the elderly and the disabled. Grace began unofficial operations under the direction of the local authorities in July 2007 Grace has grown one child, one family, one situation at a time. It has grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of those it is serving, while always maintaining a desire to help people to help themselves, empowering people to become self-sufficient and not dependent upon hand-outs and aid.
Grace’s Centres are spread over many services including: Baby/Child Day Care for working mums, Before & After School Care for disadvantaged kids, Hope Memorial Medical Clinic and the Skills Development Centre providing training in a variety of skills including literacy, numeracy, child care and health.
